Day 22: Muxía to Lires (15.8km over 4.5 hours)
We couldn’t wait to get outside this morning after seeing the sunrise from our window. We ate a breakfast, packed up and set out for the ~15km hike to Lires. The morning was quiet as residents were still sleeping and we encountered only 2 other pilgrims on the way out.
Today we once again walked through rolling green forests of eucalyptus and pine trees. Similar to our hike in Pamplona from Zariquiegui, we walked through fields of impressive wind turbines. They dot the landscape all over Spain. We have learned that 23% of Spain’s power comes from wind! Seeing these never gets old as it gives us hope that one day the U.S will adopt such forward thinking technology to a level that Spain has.
There is nothing in between Muxía and Lires. We have gotten used to having a café rest every 3-4km on the Camino Frances but we walked today without much stopping. We were more than happy to arrive at our destination in Lires today. We will continue tomorrow and reach Finesterre, the end of the world!
