Camino Day 4: Biskerreta to Larasoaña

Updated: Nov 27, 2023

Day 4 Biskarreta to Larrasoaña ( 15km over 8 hours)

According to our Camino book, this day is a day of mostly flat terrain so we were looking forward to a nice, level hike today. Mom and Asha decided to carry their bags today as we thought it'd be a good training day for our next big hike in the Dolomites of Italy where we will all be carrying bags. However the route today proved to be more difficult in real life than on paper (!) and we weren't prepared for the intense heat.

The morning was pretty pleasant. We passed through the small towns of Linzoain and Also de Erro and stopped to have lunch in Zubiri along the river at Puente de la Rabia.

We like to take our time when hiking to notice leaves, snails, salamanders, birds, and stop for snacks and water breaks. Sometimes however this means we are hiking in afternoon where the heat can be intense. When we started hiking after the lunch, we were hiking in full sun. Everyone, was a champ and we got through it!

This day more than any other tested our resolve and we learned that we need to be more thoughtful and come up with a sustainable way to walk and have fun. We realized we have to ship our packs to give ourselves a break even if the trail app and Camino book says it’s flat. We made it to our last stop at Casa San Nicolas in Larraosoña where we met Miguel it's owner, who welcomed us. We showered, did our laundry and while cooking dinner, we met Luca from Slovenia who we will visit on our trip down the Istrian coast in October!

Ah reality vs belief.....glad you all persevered and came up with new strategies. Be brave and courageous, the Lord goes before you and will make the crooked paths straight!

Love,

Grandpa Ed
