Camino Day 7:Puente de la Reina to Leòn

Updated: Dec 8, 2023

Day 7 Puente de la Reina (bus)– Pamploma (rental car)– Burgos – León

We awoke having had a good night’s rest and walked out to the nearly bus stand to catch the bus back to Pamplona. We have just walked from there and it was worth it! It was easier to go back to Pamplona and rent a car to head to León vs. taking a bus or train ahead to Leon. There were no trains or buses available for 4 days and the tickets were more than the cost of a rental. We’ve been using Rome2 Rio website for all of our transport and it’s been very helpful. We returned back to the Pamplona via bus, then taxi’d it out the Pamplona airport to pick up our Hertz rental car.

This was a great decision. It allowed us to cover a lot of mileage at our pace, see the natural landscapes of many small towns. We stopped in Burgos to see one of Spain’s largest churches, the Cathedral of Burgos, built in the 13th century. We enjoyed the audio tour learning about how cathedrals were sponsored, built and preserved. We haven’t spent much time in churches as a family so this was a new historical, architectural experience.

We made it to León by evening time, dropped off the rental car at the Leon train station drop off and continued on to our Airbnb in the heart of old town in Leon. It was a wonderful location! We were overlooking a plaza, near fresh bakeries and restaurants, had a supermarket right around the corner. We were walking distance from the intersection of old and new Leon, where 13th century churches was juxtaposed against new lush restaurants and electronics stores. We made it to Inglesia San Isidoro for a quick Pilgrim’s mass and to receive a Pilgrim’s blessing. We strolled through the plazas and bought groceries for dinner.

The church's are amazing in Spain.....along with their enthusiasm for football! Good place to see the grandeur of the architectural design. I remember being in Granada Spain and just walking around inside some with my mouth wide open. Enjoy and keep rested....you've got a year!

Love you all
